Character
Name: Katsuo Takehiko
Nickname/Alias: Doesn't have enough friends to have gotten one.
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 120 lbs
Hobbies: Watches a lot of anime, plays VR games, reads, and cooks!
Talents: He's a good cook.
Appearance:
Personality: Katsuo prefers the company of a good book over other people most of the time. Naturally, he doesn't have many friends as a result, but that doesn't bother him too much - it does mean his interpersonal skills are fairly poor, though. He means well, but he tends to be blunt, and can often come off as rude. He's very loyal to the few people he makes friends with, however, and would do nearly anything for them; if it interrupts the reading of his book, though, he will undoubtedly make it a point to complain about it. Katsuo has no experience in relationships, and hasn't really had more than a passing interest in a girl thus far, so he would have no idea what to do if he did want to pursue a relationship.
History: Katsuo was born to his single mother, Toshiko Takehiko, a bright woman who works at Hibiya Academy as the librarian. Throughout his life, he's never met his father, nor has his mother ever even given him so much as a name. "He was a good man, but couldn't stay with us. He gave me you, the greatest gift in the world, and I'm content with that," his mother would say, whenever he asked. However, that's not to say he didn't have a "father figure" in his life, as his grandfather would visit whenever he could and keep Katsuo and Toshiko comany. "Ojiisan" was kind, thoughtful, and rarely serious are Katsuo. He often teased the boy about his reading habits, saying he would end up "leading a boring life handing books to teenagers, just like my daughter." As his mother worked at Hibiya, he was able to attend the academy free of charge, and did so through 8th grade. However, he was often bullied by the upper-class students, and while he did his best to hide this fact from his mother, his secret became known in startling fashion. About 2 months before the end of 8th grade, Katsuo was outside for Phys Ed, stretching before his running test, same as the rest of his class. Just before the instructor yelled, "Start!", he saw his "main bully" and his older brother, with a couple of their friends, dragging a pair of large black trash bags towards the finish line. Everyone left Katsuo in the dust, as the boy really didn't run much at all, and as he crossed the finish line, he was pelted with rotten fruit. The other, bigger boys continued to throw the fruit at him as Katsuo did his best to run away, but they kept close enough to soak him in the rotten smelling fruit juices from head to toe. They herded him towards the main entrance of the school, and he burst through the wide double doors just in time for the bell to ring. As everyone walked through the hallway to change classes, he sprinted down the main hallway towards the library. Everyone, even his few friends, laughed at his expense, making jokes and pointing as he passed.
Katsuo convinced his mother that he had to go to Yashio Public School next year, as there was absolutely no way he'd ever return to Hibiya. She convinced him to at least finish out the year, and he spent all of his free time in the library where his mother could keep an eye on him. Not even a week later, the two of them received disturbing news - Ojiisan had been killed in a horrible accident. The heavy naval artillery they'd been testing had misfired, seriously injuring several people and killing Katsuo's grandfather. Everywhere he went, he remembered the times he'd been there with Ojiisan. Except for school, of course - there he had the bitter reminder of how no one, not even those he'd considered friends, wanted him there. On his last day of school at Hibiya Academy, he was sitting in the library, enjoying an "interesting" new book he'd picked up on the physics and construction of naval artillery, when an older boy came in, and sat down across from him. The boy had a serious expression on his face, his arms crossed, and undoubtedly wanted to talk with Katsuo, but said nothing. Katsuo ignored him for several minutes, and when he finished the chapter he bookmarked his page and closed the book before addressing him. After a short conversation about his plans for the future, the boy began talking about an "accelerated world". This was a bit much for Katsuo to believe, but after a short demonstration of Physical Burst (where the boy prompted Katsuo to throw a few things at him, which he dodged easily from only a foot away), Katsuo was convinced. He accepted the Brain Burst program, and after it successfully installed, the boy gave him a short explanation of what Burst Linkers were, how they earned points, and how he'd have a terrible nightmare that would signify Brain Burst was digging into his subconscious. The other boy didn't stick around long after that, and Katsuo was only able to get his first name when he left - Hideki.
Katsuo awoke the next morning, sure that he'd had his nightmare, but couldn't remember anything about it - he figured the only way he'd know what his Duel Avatar would look like would be to get into a duel. However, he kept himself off the global net until he learned more about the system, just to make sure he didn't end up getting himself in a heap of trouble. He wandered around the nearby areas, looking for "Hideki", but was unable to find him. He spent a lot of time worrying about this, and stayed off the global net as much as possible. He enrolled in Yashio Public School, and when the new semester started he began 9th grade there. No one knew him, or his story, and he was fine with that. Nobody bullied him, and hardly anyone bothered to talk to him either, which was a fantastic trade-off in Katsuo's eyes.

Duel-Avatar
Name: Cardinal Commando
Color: Cardinal, C41E3A.
Appearance: Roughly humanoid in shape, Cardinal Commando is made up of primarily blocky shapes and sharp angles. He's a medium-sized fighter, and well armored. Each of his legs have two rectangular protrusions towards the bottom, and when he activates his finisher these are revealed to be housings for posts that dig into the ground for stabilization. On his left shoulder, a large hollow cylinder points directly forward - his main weapon, a high-powered cannon. His hands are also blocky, and have 4 fingers instead of 5. His head is basically a rectangular block, with a slot about 1/3 from the top where his glowing red eyes can be seen. A square green lens covers his left eye and a small part of his "face", and he has no discernible mouth.
Combat Style: Because he has no melee attacks, Katsuo prefers to stay at range. His cannon is powerful, but hard to hit with against speedy foes. It's not uncommon for him to allow them to get somewhat close, then unload on them. He also has a small pistol, which he uses against faster foes with poor armor. He's fairly slow, and has a hard time dodging, but his defenses are decent enough to allow him the luxury of getting hit a few extra times before falling.
Burst Points: 74
Level: 1
Exp: 0
Weapons: As with most Ranged characters, Cardinal Commando has a basic blaster pistol that deals light damage but has good accuracy and firing rate with no "cool down" time, which he has nicknamed "The Staple Gun". However, he also has a large, shoulder-mounted laser cannon, which fires a large bolt of red-colored energy at high velocity. It has a quarter-second charge time before firing a bolt, and must cool down for 30 seconds before he can fire it again. Katsuo calls his cannon "Taiho", or "Great Phoenix".
Finishers: Cardinal Judgement - Cardinal Commando punches his stabilization posts into the ground, charges his cannon for one second, then fires a massive, armor-piercing bolt at high velocity.
