I've come to realize that not everyone has seen Accel World, and even those who have may be a bit foggy on the details. This is not only a place to get more information on the basics of Duel Avatars, but so I can set some guidelines on what your Duel Avatar is capable of at level 1.
Brain Burst
Firstly, Brain Burst is a program that can only be transferred once per user, whether it actually installs or not. For most of your apps, it's safe to assume it succeeded, unless for whatever reason you want it fail and your character not have BB. On top of that, Brain Burst can only be transferred via Direct Link, something usually only done by lovers and close friends. Doing so potentially allows someone to go through your memories, so a large amount of trust is usually needed to Direct Link. In other words, unless your character just doesn't care about their own well-being, they're not going to Direct Link with a total stranger for a copy of Brain Burst without knowing what it is first. Finally, when a character loses Brain Burst - whether they uninstall it themselves or lose all Burst Points and the program uninstalls itself - they lose all memories of Brain Burst, including anyone they met in-game and didn't meet in real life, anything they learned about themselves in the process, and so on.
Duel Avatars
There's a lot to say here, so I'm going to split it up a bit. Basically, the point of all this information and the few restrictions is to help people create their characters, and keep them from accidentally making them so strong they break the system an/or ruin the fun for everyone. I like to call some characters like this "Batman". He's good at everything, and the things he isn't good at he has something in his utility belt for (Shark repellent, anyone?). These characters are a pain to fight against, difficult to mod (because really, how are we supposed to keep you from god-modding if your character is already godly?), and only really fun in combat scenarios. Now, breaking the characters into two parts, Who and What, where should your focus lie? It should usually be on the "Who". How would the character you've created (the "Who") use the limited tools they have at level 1? Not the "What". What can I give my character so he has something for every situation? When you have a character who's fun to RP as in a normal, non-combat environment, then create your Duel Avatar. You'll have a better idea of how they think, what they'd do with the tools they get, and it won't be nearly as hard to give them a weapon or two and a single finisher that they can handle a wide variety of scenarios with.
Color
The five core colors are Red, Blue, Green, Purple, and Yellow. Yellow and Purple ended up with Speed and Accuracy respectively, and are the two whose colors don't match up EXACTLY with the color-coded Stats list. Purple characters specialize in offense, using both Strength and Ranged Firepower, but sacrifice all defense to do so. Yellow characters specialize in jamming abilities and illusions, and while they may not be as powerful offensively or defensively, they can be extremely hard to hit. Purple got Accuracy because technically they use it more than the other colors, having both offensive stats, and Yellow got Speed because it signifies how difficult they can be to hit. I've put down bits on the main colors from here, and if you have any further questions then go there.
Red characters excel in long-ranged combat, and their Burst Linker's fundamental desire is to reach faraway places. This often manifests in strong feelings on the world around them.
Blue characters excel in close-ranged (melee) combat, and their fundamental desire is to overcome their obstacles with their own might. This often manifests as strong feelings towards a single person.
Green characters have a high defense, and their fundamental desire is to protect those close to them.
Purple characters excel in close combat and long-ranged combat, resulting in their position between red and blue on the color spectrum. However, they sacrifice any kind of defense to do so. They tend to utilize medium-ranged weapons quite effectively.
Yellow characters excel in strong indirect attacks, such as jamming and illusions. This may signify their position between red and green in the light spectrum; by utilizing these abilities they are able to protect others from a distance.
Metal Characters tend not to have weapons, but have good defensive capabilities and excel in unarmed combat. They desire to have the walls to protect their heart from harm. Their avatar has the same properties as the metal it corresponds to on the periodic table.
Two-toned characters are characterized by a strong "mental divide" in the user's mind; for example, who they are and who their family will allow them to be.
Black and White are currently banned, once we have a few more active members I'll start taking PM requests for them. Sorry, but the only White avatar thus far in the anime or manga has no offensive abilities, but is the only "true" healer in the game; the only black avatar, Black Lotus, seems to be able to change her characteristics at will. I'll find a way to make it worthwhile to create a Black-colored avatar without letting it break the system, but for now just know that you can't make one yet.
I'll be reserving metals on a list here, so only one character of a specific metal can be active at a time. Chrome will be the only metal off-limits permanently.
Reserved Metals:
N/A
Enhanced Armaments:
These are super-cool things like Ash Roller's motorcycle or Sky Raker's Gale Thruster jetpack. If your character starts with one, you get at most 1 weapon. PM a staff member if you want one on a character to start, so we can pre-approve it. You'll need a name for it, and a short description of what it looks like and what it can do. If it's approved we'll let you know, tell you what limitations it puts on your weaponry, and add it to your app when you're ready. You'll also need to cover why your character has it in their history (Ash Roller is a former professional motorcycle racer, for example).
Weapons
I have hardly ANY limitations here, I like seeing what kinds of crazy stuff people come up with. Youarereta's first character uses a sword with a 4ft. long, golden blade with serrated edges, for example, and mine has a shoulder cannon. We've already got a green character whose only weapon is a shield. Basically, the only "limit" is that it needs to match up with your character's color's strengths - you can't have a red character with just a hammer that has no ranged capabilities, for example. I also want to see some reasoning as to why your character has that type of weapon in your app, but it doesn't have to be much.
The Incarnate System
Currently, we're keeping this off-limits. Considering the word that describes the system is "Override", I'm not quite willing to let people have access to something that gives them so serious of an advantage. Lets be honest here - it'd be cool to have, but how mad would you be if someone obliterated you in a fight because they had a higher-leveled friend who taught them how to use Incarnate and you didn't? It skews the system to heavily favor the people with Incarnate, including how easily they can create a follower base, not just the fights. Sorry folks, but no Incarnate skills yet.
